Hexcells infinite hex with question mark3/22/2023 ![]() I loved the first Hexcells, and the second one is even better. The interface is not suitable for puzzles of this complexity.įinished this last night while waiting for New Years. Often you need such extra markers to solve a puzzle, and it is idiotic that you have to print a screenshot so that you can work on it with pencil and paper.Īll in all, I do not recommend Hexcells Plus. A system whereby you do not have to click on a cell to immediately make it a hex or an empty cell, but whereby you could, for instance, color cells green when you think they contain a hex, and red when you think they are empty. Now, the solution for this would be to have some sort of "marking system" in the game. ![]() This is just making the player jump through hoops because you do not want to be user-friendly. These puzzles, especially at the higher levels, sometimes take half-an-hour to an hour to solve, and you cannot save your game in between! Ridiculous or what? Again, this is probably because the designers do not want your to easily get a perfect score by saving your game and doing some trial-and-error, but the alternative is what I did: making screenshots. The way I got around that is by making screenshots now and again, so that I could restart a puzzle and quickly set up the situation that I already resolved. I understand that they do that so that the player cannot just solve a puzzle through trial and error, but the "ironman mode" does not fit this kind of puzzle well. Your brain thinks "mark tile as a hex", but your finger presses the other mouse button and *boom*, miss-click, no perfect score for you, buddy. (2) The only way to achieve a "perfect" score on the game is to not make any miss-clicks, but miss-clicks are very easy to make. Therefore you have to search a lot more to spot the places where you can uncover new cells. (1) The puzzles are mainly made harder by making them bigger, and not by making them more inventive. ![]() The three main reasons why I say that are: The design simply is not in support of that. Making the puzzles harder is fine, and I even appreciate having harder puzzles to work on, but the game was never meant for harder puzzles. Hexcells Plus contains the same number of puzzles as Hexcells, but the puzzles are a LOT harder. Anyone with half a brain can finish the game in less than 2 hours. ![]() Hexcells Plus is okay, though I slogged through the last two hours, which were a lot less fun. Hexcells Plus is the sequel to Hexcells, which I finished earlier this week and which I enjoyed a lot. ![]()
